A visitor or tourist visa, more accurately called a temporary resident visa, is the entry document which allows visitors to come to Canada if they are not from a visa-exempt country. If your passport alone does not allow you enter Canada, you will require a temporary resident visa. Reasons for applying for a temporary resident visa include: vacation; visiting friends or family in Canada; transiting through an airport to another country.

Also known as parent and grandparent super visa, this allows parents and grandparents to visit children or grandchildren for up to 2 years at a time. A Super Visa may be granted for up to 10 years or up to the validity of your passport.
Who is eligible for a Super Visa?
To be eligible, a parent or grandparent must be invited by their child or grandchild who is a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident. The invitation must include a promise of financial support, including meeting the necessary income requirements. Proof of medical insurance is also required.

An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals travelling to Canada by air. An eTA is electronically linked to a traveller’s passport. It is valid for up to five years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you need to get a new eTA. With a valid eTA, you can travel to Canada as often as you want for short stays (normally for up to six months at a time). You do not need an eTA for travel within Canada.
Who is eligible for an Electronic Travel Authorization:
Visa-exempt foreign nationals, including certain lawful permanent residents of the United States, who are not criminally inadmissible may be eligible for an eTA. Citizens of the United States do not require an eTA.
