Canada strongly supports family unification and there are pathways for Canadian permanent residents and citizens to sponsor their spouse or partner. You can sponsor a spouse or partner whether they are in Canada or overseas.
Who can sponsor their spouse?
If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, are at least 18 years of age, and are in a genuine relationship with another individual, we recommend that you speak with one of our immigration experts for further information.
What is the processing time?
Processing times vary depending on whether you are applying inside or outside of Canada, but on average, the government quotes 12-24 months. Visit the Government of Canada website to view the most up-to-date processing times.
Canadian citizens and permanent residents may sponsor their parents or grandparents to Canada to become permanent residents. This is two-step process which requires the sponsor to receive an invitation to apply, followed by submission of a complete application. There is a limited window of opportunity to participate in this program, including quotas per calendar year, which make this category of sponsorship rather competitive. Contact an HRI representative today and we can help develop a strategy.
Who can sponsor their parents and/or grandparents?
If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, are at least 18 years of age, and are financially able to support your family including the parent/grandparent you are sponsoring, you may be eligible. If you are not eligible to sponsor, you may be eligible to invite your parent/grandparent to visit Canada for up to 2 years per visit. (hyperlink Super Visa)
